Loyle Carner's Yesterday's Gone
I've been a fan off Loyle Carner for almost a year now, sitting on the edge of my seat awaiting this album. The lyrical genius captured his fans through the power of his voice and the genuine emotions you can hear in each of his songs, especially in 'Sun of Jean' where he talks about being influenced by his mother, to be the man he has become, and trying to be the big brother figure to his little brother.
The album is a mixture of his old tracks in with his new tracks which feature his best mate, producer and DJ, Rebel Kleff, Tom Misch and also the UK Hip hop legend that is Jehst (me and my mates ended meeting jehst and had a lengthy conversation but that's a story for another time). I was expecting more of loyle's new stuff on the album but the way the tracklist is laid out, you can see that he wanted to take the listener on a roller coaster of emotions, as which he has been through, throughout his life. I was surprised that he didn't include 'Tierney Terrace' to the track list as that was the song that got me into Loyle but hey, you cant win them all.
I had the privilege of going to Loyle's live show in his hometown, Shepards Bush which was such a moving show, he captured each emotion he wanted to portray in each off his songs. The moment he brought Jehst on stage we all mental and he killed it, as did Rebel Kleff. He dedicated the whole show to his mum (she was in the crowd) which was such an enlightening moment for everyone to see.
Since the release of 'Yesterday's Gone' Loyle and his team have toured the UK, Europe and are on their way to Australia and then America which is going to do amazing for the UK Hip hop scene. I say good luck to them.
